Hi,
My name is Antonello Marafioti. I was born in Rome (Italy) in 1962 under the sign of Gemini and I've been playing piano since the age of 7. I discovered Jazz in 1981 thanks to a recording by Thelonious Monk, and, over the years, it has become, along with my wife and son, the most meaningful thing in my life.
I've been living in Germany since 1988 and in Berlin since 1994. I frequently play here and teach in the High School of Music Hanns Eisler under the direction of Jiggs Wigham. I principally use a very daring mainstream seasoned with a lot of latin elements which I gained through many experiences in Salsa groups and orchestras, always trying to base myself on the tradition of afroamerican music and spirit.
My repertoire includes a large spectrum of standards an d original compositions. Workshops of Siena and Umbria Jazz were very important in my developement as well as the experiences and counseils of masters like Marcello Tonolo, Marc Abrams, Franco d´Andrea, Enrico Rava, Pierannunzi, Giancarlo Schiaffini, Danilo Rea, Rita Marcotulli, Bruno Tommaso, Claudio Fasoli, Luca Flores, Paolo Fresu, Paul Jeffrey, Harold Mabern, Curtis Fuller, Terence Blanchard, Kevin Eubanks, Gary Burton, Steve Lacy and Mal Waldron and meeting s and collaboration s with Ira Sullivan , Red Rodney , Winto n Marsalis , Paul Jeffrey, Roy Hargrove, Massimo Urbani, Furio di Castri, Nicola Stilo, Lauro Rossi, Federico Giangrandi, Roberto Rossi, Paolo Fresu, Astrid Oed, Nicola Vernuccio, Ed Shuller, Michael Clifton , Stefan o Bambini, Maxin e Howard , Chet Baker , Manfred Hartlieb , Reiner Glas, Traugott Jäschke, Frank Möbus, Marion Brown, Roland Neffe, Johannes Fink, Hans Gunther Brodmann, David Beecroft, Maurice de Martin.

mi chiamo Antonello Marafioti, sono nato a Roma nel 1962 sotto il segno dei gemelli e suono il piano dall'età di sette anni. Ma è solo dal 1981 che, grazie ad un disco di Thelonious Monk sono arrivato al Jazz, che adesso gioca il ruolo più importante della mia vita, accanto, naturalmente, alla mia donna ed a mio figlio.
Vivo in Germania dal 1988 ed a Berlino dal 1994. Qui suono moltissimo ed insegno al Conservatorio Hanns Eisler, sotto la direzione di Jiggs Wigham. Mi servo principalmente di una stilistica mainstream molto osata, che condisco di molti elementi latin, di cui mi sono appropriato nelle mie molteplici esperienze in gruppi ed orchestre di Salsa, cercando, però, di basarmi sempre sulla tradizione della musica e dello spirito afroamericano. Il mio repertorio comprende una vasta gamma di standards e divers e composizioni originali.
